CAIRO - Family and Population Minister Mushira Khattab said that the Government would refer to the People's Assembly (the LowerHouse of the Parliament) a bill for defending the rights of the nation's seven million handicapped persons. Khattab, attending a Cairo function marking the World's Handicapped Day that a was attended by more than 100 children, said that a law had been drafted for defending the rights of the handicapped, drawing up strategies and plans for improving their wellbeing, and upgrading the social services offered to them. She said that the law called for offering financial aid to handicapped persons and including them in the workforce quota in all industrial, administrative and service facilities. “Now that there is a prompt demand for increasing the number of specialised day care centres to answer the demands of handicapped children nationwide,” she said. In addition, she told the function that her Ministry had set up two hotlines: 16000 and 08008886666, to help disabled children and their parents seven days a week.
