CAIRO - A controversial Islamist lawyer said Saturday he would take the Information Minister to court for permitting the airing of soap operas during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan that allegedly violate Islamic rules and spread debauchery. Lawyer Nabih el-Wahsh said that he had filed a legal suit against Minister Anas el-Fiqqi for allowing the official television to broadcast “outrageous” shows that included sex scenes and impolite words. El-Wahsh said that he did not want these works to be viewed by Egyptians “because they contain steamy scenes and offensive words” and called on el-Fiqqi to stop broadcasting them, or face a court suit. "Drama works like, ‘Shame,' ‘Memoirs of an Ill-reputed Woman', and ‘Zuhra's Five Husbands' damage our morals. Do we want our country to be away from Islam by watching these works?" el-Wahsh said, adding that he urged the Muslims to boycott such shows.
