CAIRO, Sept 17 , 2018 (MENA) - Egypt is endowed with a wide range of natural resources including plants, mammals, reptilians, amphibian creatures and fish species, said Chairman of the Ministry of Environment's Biodiversity Central Department Khaled Allam on Monday. Allam's statement came during the 10th meeting of the National Council on Climate Change, which was attended by Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad. Allam highlighted the importance of biodiversity as a source of food, raw material and protection against greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. Further on the value of biodiversity, Allam referred to the US$3.6-billion worth of funds South Africa gained from it in 2000. Allam attributed biodiversity loss to several main reasons including habitat loss, habitat deterioration, climate change and pollution.
