CAIRO, July 18 , 2018 (MENA) - Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy headed for Algeria on Wednesday to attend the opening of the 3rd African Youth Games. Egypt's mission to the ten-day championship comprises 372 individuals including 269 players. The players will compete in athletics, swimming, Taekwondo, weightlifting, badminton, basketball, volleyball, boxing, judo, rowing, fencing, tennis, table tennis, cycling, karate, bow and arrow, handball, canoe and kayak, kung fu, sailing, water skiing, chivalry, archery, wrestling, gymnastics, speedball and Pétanque. As many as 3,000 athletes aging between 15-18 from 54 African states participate in the event which ends on July 28. The African Youth Games targets the 14 to 18 age group, and is thought to contribute to the development of African sport and to the growth of Olympic values, as well as act as a trial run for the Olympic Games.
