CAIRO, July 8 , 2018 (MENA) - The Nature Protection Department at the Ministry of Environment has successfully foiled an attempt for selling wild birds at a pet shop in First Tagammu, in the suburb of New Cairo, and delivered them to the Giza Zoo to receive necessary care. The raid by a team from the department on the pet shop came in pursuance of directives of Environment Minister Yassmin Fouad for combating illegal trafficking of wildlife animals and birds. The Ministry's Complaint Department received a report on the selling of wild birds from South Africa in a pet shop in violation of Environment Law No.4 for the year 1994 and relevant international agreements which prohibit the trafficking of endangered species of birds and animals. Two rare parrots had been found and seized by the team after the shop owner failed to prove that they entered the country legally. The parrots have been examined by vets to ascertain that they are free from any infectious diseases and were delivered to the Giza Zoo.
