CAIRO, May 23, 2018 - The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, stressed on Wednesday the importance of adopting several executive measures to support innovation and innovators. He said that the ministry had started to reap the benefits of the findings of scientific research. He added that the ministry had also linked scientific research to the needs of society, to help solve urgent problems, and to serve the country's development goals, especially the national megaprojects. Minister Abdel Ghaffar was speaking during a meeting he chaired with members of a follow-up committee to discuss how to implement the recommendations of the recent National Conference for Scientific Research, which was organised by the ministry under the slogan of "Launching the energies of the Egyptians". The conference was attended by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi two months ago. Abdel Ghaffar confirmed that researchers could benefit from the facilities provided by the laboratories in all the centres and research institutes. During the meeting, the committee discussed the procedures adopted for setting up the Egyptian Innovation Bank, to receive the inventions of Egyptian researchers. The committee also approved the setting up of an electronic portal to make available the Egyptian innovations and the research applicable in the field of industry, in order to facilitate access by industrialists and companies to inventions suited to their activities. The committee decided to start the procedures for establishing a higher council to support innovation in co-operation with the Academy of Scientific Research.
