CAIRO, May 21, 2018 (MENA) - Egypt's industrial production, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, amounted to LE145.3 billion in the third quarter of 2017 up from LE 135.5 billion in the previous quarter of the same year, recording a 7.2 percent increase, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics' (CAPMAS) quarterly bulletin. The value of food industries made up 19 percent, followed by iron, steel, and metal industries that made up 17.1 percent, and chemical and fertilizers industries made up 10.2% of the country's industrial production (excluding crude oil and petroleum products), CAPMAS highlighted. The value of pharmaceutical and chemical products reached LE7.9 billion in the third quarter compared with LE 6.3 billion in the second quarter of the previous year, with a 24 percent increase. The value of petrochemical products reached LE14.8 billion in the third quarter, compared with LE14.2 billion in the previous quarter, recording a 3.9 percent increase. The value of food industries amounted to LE 27.6 billion in the third quarter of 2017, compared with LE 33.3 billion in the previous quarter, with a 17.1 percent increase.
