CAIRO, May 13, 2018 - The Ministry of the Environment has been continuing its efforts to activate the solid waste management system. These efforts include implementing, within 18 months, the projects of the third phase of the main waste management plan in Assiut Governorate, whose aim is to set up recycling plants and special landfills for the safe disposal of waste, using investments worth LE119 million, Minister of the Environment Dr Khaled Fahmi said. The minister was speaking during a meeting with the Governor of Assiut, Yasser el-Dessouki. Present at the meeting were the head of the Waste Management Organisation, Nahed Youssef, and representatives from the German Development Bank and the German Agency for International Co-operation. Discussions covered the waste management system and how to implement the new waste system in the governorate.
