CAIRO, April 23, 2018 (MENA) - Egypt has signed an agreement with the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) to implement the second phase of a project to renovate irrigation and sanitation plants. Worth 53.2 million dollars, the deal was sealed between International Cooperation Minister Sahar Nasr and OFID Director General Suleiman al Herbish. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of spring meetings of the World Bank in Washington. Egyptian Ambassador in Washington Yasser Reda attended the inking ceremony. The project is meant to improve the system of securing irrigation water, enhance sustainable management of water resources and improve agricultural production, Nasr said in a statement by the International Cooperation Ministry Monday. If everything works according to plan, six pumping plants should also be replaced and upgraded, the minister added. She stressed that her Ministry is keen on working with OFID to implement projects that serve citizens and help improve their living conditions, as well as create jobs for youth and women.
