CAIRO- Egypt's opposition party Al Wafd has launched an aid convoy for the Israel-blockaded Gaza Party, officials in the liberal party said on Thursday. Independent MPs and public figures have joined the convoy, which is due to enter the impoverished Palestinian enclave on Thursday. El-Sayed el-Badawi, the chief of the party, pledged to send more convoys to Gaza "to save its 1.5 million people" who have been under a relentless Israeli siege for three years. There has been no comment from the Egyptian authorities. President Hosni Mubarak ordered the opening of the Rafa border crossing with Gaza last month after Israel's deadly attack on a Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla.
