Opposition forces to welcome European aid convoy
Published in Daily News Egypt on 02 - 03 - 2009

CAIRO: Egyptian opposition forces are planning a reception to welcome an aid convoy that set off from London and drove across Europe and North Africa, bringing together activists and members of parliament.
The convoy, made up of over 130 trucks loaded with food and medical aid for Gaza, is headed by British MP George Galloway and is expected to arrive to Egypt Wednesday through Salloum, on the Egypt-Libya border.
Opposition parties including the Kefaya movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, the unofficial Al-Karama party, are planning a public receptions at all of convoy's stops, and are urging the government not to impede its crossing over into Gaza through the Rafah crossing, Abdel Gelil Moustafa, coordinator of Kefaya, told Daily News Egypt.
Saad El-Katatny, head of the Brotherhood's parliamentary bloc, said that the various political currents have never seen eye to eye as much as they do regarding the lifting of the blockade from Gaza and supporting the Palestinian people.
A full-fledged program has been prepared to welcome the convoy, expressing the Egyptian and Arab gratitude for the activists' initiative, El-Katatny said.
In a statement they released on Monday, they wrote: "Egyptians across the political spectrum welcome the European convoy, whose initiative shows that the human conscience can fight Israeli injustice, oppression and racism.
The statement also urged Arabs and Egyptians specifically to welcome the convoy in all their stops.
