CAIRO, March 2, 2018 - Egypt's Prosecutor-General Nabil Sadek on Friday ordered that Mona Mahmoud Mohamed, who fabricated a story to the BBC that the security forces arrested and tortured her daughter Zubaida Ibrahim Yousef, for 15 days pending further questioning. In its questioning, the prosecution accused Mona of broadcasting false and baseless news that harmed Egypt's national interests. Mona was also charged with joining a terrorist group that aimed at harming the state's institutions and properties, violating the personal freedom of citizens, harming national unity and social peace, and endangering the safety and security of the whole society. She was arrested in the light of a court order issued by the Supreme State Security Prosecution after she was found to have provided false information in a recent interview with the BBC. She claimed during the interview that her daughter Zubaida was subjected to what she called "enforced disappearance" and torture by the security services. But, her daughter has appeared later in a television interview and denied the allegations of her mother.
