Hamas urges UN to blacklist Israel as criminal entity
Published in Daily News Egypt on 05 - 06 - 2024

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has called upon the United Nations to include "the Israeli occupation" in the blacklist of criminal entities. This appeal coincides with the International Day of Innocent Child Victims of Aggression. In a statement, Hamas referred to UN reports that document the death or injury of a Palestinian child every 10 minutes in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas asserts that the ongoing Zionist aggression against Gaza has resulted in more than 14,000 child martyrs—an alarming toll that surpasses the casualties recorded during four years of global conflicts.
On Tuesday, the Israeli occupation army announced a new operation in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. The Air Force conducted several raids, while ground forces operated with precision in the area.
Volker Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, expressed support for the proposed US ceasefire plan to resolve the conflict in Gaza. He described the situation in the Strip as "completely fragile." Türk emphasized that any initiative leading to a ceasefire is welcome, given the dire circumstances.
"We don't even know how to describe it any more. It's more than fragile. It's more than catastrophic," Türk told reporters. He highlighted the brutal violations of rules and standards related to conduct during the war, emphasizing the lack of safety within Gaza.
Hamas leader Osama Hamdan conveyed the movement's position to mediators. He stated that unless the Israeli occupation commits to a permanent ceasefire and comprehensive withdrawal from Gaza, Hamas cannot agree to an agreement that lacks these guarantees. Hamdan urged clarity from Israel, emphasizing the importance of a serious and genuine exchange deal.
He said during a press conference in Beirut: "We are awaiting the clear Israeli position on this issue on which there is international consensus, and we call on the mediators to obtain a clear position on the Israeli occupation regarding its commitment to a permanent ceasefire and comprehensive withdrawal. This position that we communicated to the mediators is the national position. Which represents the Palestinian factions and confirms it, and I informed it to our negotiating team, which represents them."
In response to attacks against civilians, the Al-Qassam Brigades (Hamas' military arm) targeted an Israeli force of 15 soldiers. An ambush in a house in Gaza City's Al-Sabra neighbourhood led to casualties among the Israeli troops. Additionally, Al-Qassam announced the targeting of an Israeli military excavator and two Merkava tanks in the Yabna camp, south of Gaza City, using "Al-Yassin 105" shells.
The toll of Israeli aggression on the Strip stands at 36,550 deaths and 82,959 injured since 7 October, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
