Egypt urges Israeli withdrawal from Rafah crossing amid Gaza ceasefire talks
Published in Daily News Egypt on 03 - 06 - 2024

The tripartite Egyptian-American-Israeli meeting in Cairo concluded with Egypt maintaining its stance on the necessity of Israeli withdrawal from the Rafah crossing, according to Egyptian media reports.
The official Israeli Broadcasting Authority announced that an Israeli security delegation would travel to Cairo on Sunday to discuss the reopening of the Rafah border crossing, to facilitate humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
During these security meetings, Israeli and American officials will engage in discussions. Israel has reportedly informed Egypt of its readiness to withdraw Israeli army forces from the crossing, relocating them to another position based on operational considerations. Additionally, Israel no longer dismisses the possibility of Palestinians managing the crossing.
In a related context, the White House National Security Council spokesperson stated in an interview with ABC News that the United States expects Israel to approve the ceasefire deal proposal if Hamas agrees to it.
Furthermore, CBS News quoted an Israeli official who revealed that the War Council and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have agreed to a hostage exchange proposal. However, they are currently awaiting Hamas' response.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Health in Gaza said that during the past 24 hours, the Israeli occupation committed 4 massacres against families, including 60 dead and 220 injured in hospitals, which raises the toll of the Israeli aggression since 7 October to 36,439 deaths and 82,627 injuries.
In response to the Israeli attacks against civilians, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), announced the bombing of the occupation headquarters in the "Netzarim" axis with a 114 mm short-range "Rajum" missile system. It also reported targeting a Merkava tank with an "Al-Yassin 105" missile in the vicinity of the university south of the Al-Sabra neighbourhood in Gaza City.
The Al-Qassam Brigades announced the targeting of two D9 military bulldozers with two Tandom shells on Salah al-Din Gate Street in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.
For its part, the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, announced the bombing of soldiers and occupation vehicles penetrating the Al-Barahama area, west of the Yabna camp, in the city of Rafah, with regular "60-calibre" mortar shells.
In the same context, Haaretz newspaper reported from the Israeli army that 46 soldiers were injured in the battles in the Gaza Strip since Thursday, 4 of them in serious condition.
