Egypt's Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar received Liao Liqiang, the Ambassador of China to Egypt, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the health sector on Monday. Abdel-Ghaffar thanked China, in appreciation of its efforts in supporting the Egyptian health sector, expressing his aspiration for continued cooperation in the field of research, development and innovation in antivirals, vaccines, and serums. The Minister of Health and Population also expressed his aspiration for the speedy completion of the preparation of vital safety laboratories, stressing its importance in facilitating dealing with any future pandemics, and the importance of benefiting from Chinese expertise in the field of medical industries, which contributes to the advancement of the Egyptian health sector. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, indicated that the minister followed up with the Chinese ambassador, on the completion rates of the health projects that are being implemented between the two sides. On top of these projects is the preparation and establishment of a scientific research laboratory for biosafety at the BSL-3 level. The two sides also discussed cooperation in Increasing production lines for vaccines and serums. Abdel Ghaffar added that the meeting addressed the cooperation in establishing and equipping 9 environmentally friendly healthcare units, in addition to cooperation in equipping medical facilities with the latest medical devices, especially CT scans, ultrasounds, and cardiac catheters. For his part, the Chinese ambassador stressed that the bilateral relations between the two countries are an ideal and unique model of international cooperation. The Scientific Research Laboratory for Biosafety at the "BSL-3" level is being established on an area of 5,860 square meters, with an expected production capacity of 200 million vaccine doses, at a cost of EGP 735m.
