The Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) held a training course in Maiduguri, the capital of Nigeria's Borno State, focusing on "strengthening the role of women's community leaders to prevent radicalization and extremism leading to terrorism".
The Center also organized a workshop on "A Comprehensive Approach to Dealing with Individuals Formerly Affiliated with Boko Haram and Islamic State (IS)," where Borno State faces Nigeria's greatest challenge in countering the threat of terrorism due to the high number of defectors from terrorist groups.
The organization of these two events is part of Egypt's continuous contributions to the efforts of African countries in the fight against terrorism and extremist ideology in accordance with Nigerian national priorities through the adoption of a comprehensive approach that takes into account the relevant pioneering Egyptian experience, which is one of the main axes of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development as a platform for the exchange of experiences.
The training course was held with the participation of 27 Nigerian women leaders at the local level with the aim of building their resilience against terrorism.
The workshop was attended by a number of federal and Borno State government officials and aimed at building the capacity of Nigerian cadres in the field of disarmament, demobilization and reintegration.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum attended the opening ceremony, as did Egypt's Ambassador to Nigeria Ehab Awad, who thanked the Borno State Governor for the trust they placed in the CCCPA as a partner that relies on his expertise.
"A briefing was held for representatives of development partners and UN organizations in Abuja during which Director General of the CCCPA, Ambassador Ahmed Abdellatif stressed that this field training program represents an important shift in the center's work, reflecting Egypt's keenness to support the efforts of African countries on the ground with the aim of achieving peace and stability.
