Acting Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar received on Sunday Topoli Mulambo Lubaya — Zambia's Ambassador to Cairo — and his accompanying delegation to discuss ways of cooperation and exchange of scientific and research experiences between the two countries.
The meeting dealt with strengthening aspects of cooperation between the two countries in the health sector in addition to benefiting from the experiences of the Egyptian state in developing and upgrading its health system, including the experience of the Egyptian health ministry in the field of hospital management, health care centres, and the ability to provide various aspects of health and treatment care to citizens of all ages.
Moreover, the meeting witnessed a discussion of training specialised doctors and technicians from Zambia in various specialisations, including oncology, neurology, and neurosurgery within the institutes, centres, and hospitals of the ministry and the National Cancer Institute of Cairo University.
According to the ministry, cooperation with Zambia includes exchanging medical expertise and working to improve and raise the level of medical services provided to citizens of Zambia. The minister also directed the need to train Zambian students in the Arabic language to facilitate understanding.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar — the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry — said that the meeting addressed the development of a specific plan to receive critically ill patients from Zambia and to provide aspects of medical care through hospitals affiliated with the ministry in addition to providing treatment services to ensure that they receive the best medical and pharmaceutical services.
He further stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of medical tourism through the exchange of scientific and research programmes.
For his part, the Zambian ambassador thanked the Egyptian state for providing logistical support to the health sector of his country and praised the success of the Egyptian state's experience in addressing the coronavirus and the public health initiatives for addressing communicable and non-communicable diseases.
