Cairo launches 1st edition of Saqqara Race with 1,000 international competitors
Around 1,000 competitors from 30 countries participated in the 5 km-race in addition to 50 children participating in a 1 km-race.

Egypt launched the first edition of the Saqqara Race under the auspices of the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities and Youths and Sports along with the Egyptian General Authority.
Around 1,000 competitors from 30 countries participated in the 5 km-race in addition to 50 children participating in a 1 km-race.
The race was organised by the TriFactory Company.
Director General of Tourism Awareness at the State Department of Tourism in Cairo Maha Eid stated that the Saqqara Race is characterised by paved roads that were completely allocated to the participants during the race in line with international standards.
The MyLaps timing system — the same technology used in the Olympic Games — was also applied during the race to calculate the duration of laps and the order of the racers, which could put the race on the international running calendar in the future.
In the same context, Director-General of the Saqqara Antiquities Zone Sabry Farag stated that the race started at 8am on 25 February from the Djoser Pyramid (Sept Pyramid), then Pyramid of Teti, till the Djoser Pyramid's parking lot.
