Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry arrived in the Belgian capital, Brussels, on Sunday to deliver a message from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. Ahmed Hafez, Spokesperson for Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Shoukry is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with his European Union (EU) counterparts. This is in addition to meetings with senior officials from the European Commission, to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues of common concern. Shoukry will review the latest developments relating to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), in light of the UN Security Council session last Thursday. The situation in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen will also be addressed and reviewed, alongside the Egyptian position that calls for adhering to a comprehensive political settlement to deal with these issues. This will take place in a manner that preserves national institutions, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and limits illegal external interference in an effort to restore stability and security. Shoukry will additionally review the ongoing Egyptian efforts to establish a ceasefire between the Palestinian and Israeli sides. This is in parallel with coordination with the international community to launch the process of rebuilding Gaza based on the Egyptian initiative in this context.
