Egypt ready to support manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines in Africa: Prime Minister
Published in Daily News Egypt on 24 - 06 - 2021

Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has said that the country is ready to support the manufacture of vaccines against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Africa.
Madbouly's remarks came during his participation, on Thursday, in an African Union Bureau meeting in which he confirmed Egypt's full support for the ambitious initiative to sign partnerships to manufacture COVID-19 vaccines on the African continent.
The Prime Minister said that Egypt will not spare any effort towards working with African countries to overcome the pandemic, and towards achieving the goals and aspirations for a better future.
Madbouly said that Egypt has worked tirelessly to suppoet Africa's efforts to get COVID-19 vaccines, and to increase the doses given to overcome the crisis. He noted the importance of obtaining safe and sufficient shipments of vaccines.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of strengthening Africa's efforts in the local production of vaccines. He praised the initiative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo's (DRC) President Felix Tshisekedi, which aims to increase the Africa-wide partnership to locally manufacture COVID-19 vaccines.
Madbouly added that Egypt was able to take firm steps that resulted in concluding an agreement to manufacture vaccines in Egypt, asserting that the state is looking to share the fruits of these national efforts with other African countries.
During his speech, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, Madbouly stressed the importance of international support for Africa's efforts to recover from the economic repercussions of the pandemic.
In this context, he applauded the international initiatives aimed at mitigating the economic repercussions of the pandemic, including the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) initiatives to enhance global liquidity.
