Ahmed Youssef, CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board (ETPB) met with Miguel Sanz Castedo, President of the Spanish Tourism Authority, to discuss cooperation in tourism and travel between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed the restoration of inbound tourist traffic to Egypt from Spain.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 41st edition of the International Exhibition for Tourism and Travel (Fetour), which is being held in Madrid from 19 to 23 May. Egypt is attending the event, represented by the ETPB, which is taking part on the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' behalf.
Youssef also held a number of intense meetings with representatives from major tour operators, tourism, and aviation companies, as well as hotels, in the Spanish market. This included the CEAV-Tour Mundial (El Corte Inglés), TUI – Club 5 Estrellas- Dunas Travel, and others.
During these meetings, he reviewed the most important developments in Egypt's tourism sector, and outlined the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' efforts to mitigate the negative effects of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.
He also reviewed the facilities necessary for vaccinating all tourism sector workers that began last April, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Population and the Chamber of Hotel Establishments.
Youssef also discussed the precautionary measures, and health and safety controls, that Egypt has applied, whether at hotels, facilities, resorts, restaurants, cafeterias, museums, and archaeological sites.
These have been enforced to ensure the safety of tourism sector workers, citizens, and tourists, which confirms Egypt's readiness to receive tourists with high-quality expertise, and to provide excellent levels of tourism services.
Youssef pointed out that the Egyptian Government is establishing huge projects to boost the country's tourism momentum according to long-term plans. This is especially as the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is working to create new tourism patterns that are in line with international visions of developing tourism sustainability.
It will also contribute to making the tourism sector more robust, resilient, and able to respond to any crises that may occur.
During the meeting, discussions took place to strengthen the means of cooperation, especially with regard to studying and presenting the current mechanism of the joint campaign system.
It included the methods of implementing advertising campaigns and the plans to promote in foreign markets the many tourist and archaeological elements in Egypt. This is set to take place by launching marketing campaigns and concluding international partnerships, in light of the excellence of the Egyptian tourism product.
It also takes into account its diversity and richness, which contributes to attracting more tourist movement.
Also during the meeting, Youssef reviewed the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' current and promotional plan for Egypt, which depends on the use of advanced tools and methods, as well as effective marketing mechanisms.
The plan aims to diversify promotion platforms globally, and works to shed more light on Egypt's unique tourism and archaeological components. This will enhance the atypical impressions of the Egyptian destination, transforming it into a safe and charming destination.
