Minister of Communication and Information Technology Amr Talaat and Lasheen Ibrahim, President of the National Election Authority (NEA), have signed a cooperation protocol to develop the NEA's information infrastructure. The protocol will last for three years, and will see a number of projects implemented, including linking the NEA with relevant bodies to update voter databases, via a secure connection. The protocol also targets the establishment of mutual databases to update information between the NEA and relevant authorities. These include the ministries of justice, health, defence, and interior and the Civil Registry Authority. More parties may be added to the database in the future. Talaat noted that the cooperation protocol comes as part of projects implemented by his ministry to provide the technological infrastructure supporting state plans for digital transformation. The protocol also looks to lay the foundations of institutional performance development. The minister explained that the protocol aims to provide the NEA with the infrastructure and information through the necessary systems and devices. It will also facilitate the authority's work in all future electoral and constitutional benefits. Talaat noted that under the protocol, several projects will be implemented to develop and update the NEA's electronic portal, as well as applications the authority owns. It also aims to provide the requirements of two distribution rooms for judges and administrators employed by the authority. An automatic system of voter distribution, media and complaints centres, and an operating room within the authority will also be established, in addition to providing specialised technical training to protocol parties.
