Egypt's total number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) infections has reached 779 with 52 deaths on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health has announced. A total of 179 patients have recovered and been discharged from specialist hospital care.
The ministry released the demographic data of the infections, showing that 61% are males and 39% are females. In addition,22% of cases aged between 50-59, while 94% of the deaths were more than 50 years old.
Minister of Health Hala Zayed said the epidemiological situation of the Covid-19 in Egypt is stable compared to the global rates. Zayed added that the global average for infections is 105 per million, with the number of deaths per million is 5.1.
"In Egypt, the epidemiological average of infections is 6 cases per million, and the number of deaths reached 0.4 deaths per million, which indicates the stability of the situation," Zayed said.
On Wednesday, the official gazette published Zayed's decision to include the deaths resulting from infection with the novel coronavirus, to the first part of the infectious diseases table. The table is annexed to Law No 137 of 1958, regarding health precautions to prevent infectious diseases.
According to the law, it is necessary to vaccinate children free of charge at health offices. The law also allows for the relevant health authorities to vaccinate all residents against infectious disease.
If a citizen is infected or suspected of having an infection, he must be reported immediately to the specialist health services. Officials in the application of this law are also granted the right to search homes and places suspected of having the disease.
On Tuesday, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi praised the government's anti-coronavirus measures. He added that he is closely following the latest updates on the disease, noting that the results of the governmental measures show serious measures combating the pandemic.
