The Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) signed a contract with Orange Egypt to establish, operate, and manage a $135m data centre and cloud-based platforms in the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
The agreement was signed by Mohamed Abdel-Latif, general manager of ACUD, and Hisham Mahran, Enterprise Line of Business Officer at Orange Egypt, in the presence of Ahmed Zaki Abdeen, chairperson and managing director of ACUD, and French ambassador in Cairo Stéphane Romatet, as well as other officials of the two companies.
Orange was chosen to establish and operate the data centre according to the latest global standards, as the company has international expertise in providing innovative technology services. This comes in cooperation with major international companies in the telecommunications and information technology sector.
The establishment of the data centre is a pivotal project in the technological infrastructure of the NAC, as it is mandated to preserve the most vital information, which means it is an absolute necessity.
Under this agreement, Orange will provide the infrastructure to establish and manage a data centre for smart cities that will enable the NAC to exploit smart technology to provide a range of services, including but not limited to providing Internet of Things solutions, artificial intelligence platforms, cloud computing, and the TRIPLE PLAY (internet – phone – television) of high-quality, in addition to utilities management.
Yasser Shaker, CEO and managing director of Orange Egypt, expressed his great happiness with the cooperation with the ACUD in this huge project.
Orange has the required human and scientific expertise to manage this project at the highest professional level due to its previous experience of similar projects in many cities around the world, he added.
For his part, Abdel-Latif stated that the agreement comes within the framework of the ACUD's efforts to turn the NAC into a smart and sustainable city, the first of its kind in Egypt. The NAC will be operating completely with smart technologies, along with 14 other cities the state is now establishing.
At the end of the signing ceremony, Abdeen praised the agreement, and added that Orange was chosen for this role due to its global experience in providing integrated communication services.
