17.2%, hike in Egypt's exports to COMESA in 2018

The total value of Egypt's exports to COMESA countries witnessed an increase of 17.2% in 2018, reaching $1908 m in 2018, compared to $1628m in 2017, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on its latest report issued on Tuesday.
The report showed out that the highest exports were concentrated in five African countries, including Libya, Sudan, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda, respectively, accounting for85.5% of Egypt's total exports to COMESA countries.
"Egypt's exports to Libya topped the list of the COMESA countries that receive Egypt's exports with value of $ 635.9 m, representing 33.1% of Egypt's total exports to the COMESA countries, " according to the CAPMAS`s report.
Meanwhile, Uganda came at the fifth place in terms of receiving Egypt's exports in the COMESA countries, with a value of $ 82.9 m, representing 4.3% of the total exports of Egypt to the COMESA countries.
Concerning the state's imports from COMESA countries, the CAPMAS showed that the
total value of Egypt's imports from COMESA countries reached $ 1044 m in 2018 compared to $605 m in 2017, an increase of 72.6%.
The report also showed out that the highest imports came from five countries,including Kenya, Zambia, Sudan, Congo, and Libya, accounting for 93.4% of Egypt's total exports to COMESA.
Kenya topped the list of the COMESA countries that Egypt import from them, with a value of $287.3m, representing 27.5% of Egypt`s total imports from the COMESA Countries.
On the other hand, Libya came last in the list of COMESA countries that Egypt import from them, with a value of $ 66.0 m representing 6.3% of Egypt's total exports to COMESA.
Finally the report showed out that the trade exchange between Egypt and COMESA countries, hiked by 32.2% in 2018, but it doesnot reveal the value.
This report is keeping pace with Egypt hosting for Investment for Africa conference, which will take place in the period from 22 to 23 November in the New Administrative Capital under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The forum is organised by the Ministry of Investment and International cooperation in cooperation with the ministries of Foreign Affairs, and Trade and Industry.
