The government allocated EGP7.8bn for the development and modernisation of the informative infrastructure and the digital content project in the budget of the current Fiscal Year 2019/20, Minister of Finance Mohamed Moeit said in a statement on Sunday.
‘We have also allocated EGP155m for another project which is the integrated databases project in cooperation with the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) to develop the control capacities,' Moeit said.
The government aims at building capacities of the state institutions through implementing a unified automatic system for the digital transformation, he added.
Digital transformation is one of the pillars that promotes economic growth, in addition to building a diversified and competitive economy and establishing new communities that support knowledge, innovation and investments, the minister said.
The government aims to integrate the databases that could help offering digital services to Egyptian citizens in line with the sustainable development goals strategy 2030, Moeit said.
"The national project for digital transformation is bearing fruits through the first phase of the project in Port Said, which entails launching an electronic services portal that matches with the other efforts of the ministries including the government's online investment map."
The digital transformation plays a vital role in easing the governmental services that the citizens receive, the minister said. "We are very keen on offering equal opportunities for the citizens in a transparent way, in addition to encouraging investment and creating job opportunities in line with delivering subsidies to the persons most in need."
Moeit asserted that his ministry is implementing plans for the development of customs and taxation systems with the aim of attracting additional investments, promoting transparency and establishing a tightly controlled system to eliminate tax evasion.
The ministry aims at improving Egypt's ranking on the World Bank's "Facilitating Cross-Border Trade" Index, Moeit said, noting that the real estate taxes system is currently being automated and connected to an internal network.
"We will establish an accurate electronic database for the real estate tax to further improve the work environment and accelerate the pace of performance," the minister concluded.
