Decent Life: a presidential initiative aims to develop Egypt's poorest villages
Published in Daily News Egypt on 07 - 08 - 2019

Within the activities of the 7th National Youth Conference that took place recently, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi launched the first conference of the presidential initiative Haya Karima (Decent Life).
The first conference of the initiative aimed to showcase the state's efforts to provide a decent life for all citizens, besides clarifying the initiative's cornerstones and providing an outlet for young people to share their ideas regarding the execution of the initiative.
Decent Life is a state-sponsored strategy to eradicate poverty in Egypt's neediest villages. The initiative was introduced when Al-Sisi wrote a post on his official Facebook page in the beginning of 2019, calling on the state's institutions and civil society organisations to adopt a national initiative to secure a decent life for low-income people in the society.
Decent Life is not the first presidential initiative launched recently with the aim to improve people's livelihood. Over the last two years, seven presidential initiatives were created to improve the economic, educational, health, and social life of citizens, including:
Nour Haya initiative (Life Light) which aims to provide eye care with a total budget of EGP 1bn. The initiative targets to examine 7 million students at the primary education stage and includes conducting 250,000 eye surgeries.
100 Million Health initiative which was launched by Al-Sisi in October 2018 and is scheduled to run for two years. It aims to conduct a comprehensive and free medical examination of Hepatitis C virus in addition to detecting non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and obesity.
Microenterprise initiative which was launched in March 2017 and funded by about EGP 250m from Tahya Masr Fund (Long Live Egypt) and Nasser Social Bank. The initiative aims to achieve economic empowerment of women and the neediest groups.
