UK Trade Envoy in Egypt to boost health care cooperation
We are committed to supporting Egypt's reform agenda, says British ambassador

The United Kingdom Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Egypt, Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, arrived in Cairo accompanied by two of the leading British companies in the field of healthcare: Escalla and AT Medics, to explore new opportunities and build on previous successes in Egypt, the British embassy in Egypt said on Sunday.
This is the 10th visit from Donaldson in under three years, with the objective to further trade and investment opportunities and strengthen links between the UK and Egypt.
During his two-day visit, Donaldson is expected to meet with Minister of Finance, Mohamed Moeit, Minister of Military Production, Mohamed Al-Assar, and Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad.
"The UK is committed to supporting Egypt's reform agenda through establishing partnerships in the fields of education, health, finance, and private sector development," British ambassador to Egypt Sir Geoffrey Adams, said.
These partnerships will enable both countries to share knowledge and expertise, and deliver positive outcomes that benefit all Egyptians to build their capacity, the ambassador added.
"My visit this week builds on the momentum of the Secretary of State for International Trade, Liam Fox's visit last month, and lays the groundwork for further cooperation in sectors in the Egyptian economy, designed to promote job creation and economic development in Egypt," the UK Trade Envoy said.
Donaldson will meet seven world-leading UK healthcare companies during this visit who are playing an instrumental role in putting the UK's commitment to supporting Egypt's healthcare reform into action, according to the embassy's statement.
In January, Egypt and the UK signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to increase cooperation between the two countries in the health sector.
The MoU aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and skills between the two countries, as well as to offer training to medical professionals in Egypt. The agreement will also encourage joint work between representatives from both countries to support Egypt's healthcare reform.
Since the signing of the MoU, over 30 Egyptian doctors have received training in the UK, with the intention of having 100 Egyptian doctors trained in the UK before year's end.
