NREA to receive construction offers for Gulf of Suez wind power station in July
Technical evaluation of Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, Senvion tenders are completed, says Al-Khayat

The New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) has completed the technical evaluation procedures for the bid to construct a 250MW offshore wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez.
General Manager at NREA, Mohammed El-Khayat, told Daily News Egypt that the results of the technical evaluation will be announced by the companies; Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, and Senvion next month. The financial offers will be received from technically-qualified companies.
He explained that the KfW Development Bank is arranging a €260m loan to finance the project with the participation of a number of European parties. It will be available after settling on the winning company and starting the measurements and studies.
Seven international companies had submitted offers to establish the project and the authority has settled on only three companies after reviewing the technical and financial solvency of each.
El-Khayat added that the NREA will open the financial bids of the tender to construct the 50MW solar power station in Zaafarana next month.
Elecnor, NARI, TCK, B ELECTRIC, and Vikram Solar are among the qualified companies. The DNV GL office is responsible for the advisory work of the Zaafarana plant with a capacity of 50MW. The project is implemented according to its requirements and international standards and is funded by KfW for €50m.
The ministry of electricity and renewable energy aims to produce 20% of the new and renewable energy of the total capacities produced on the national electricity grid until 2022. It seeks to pave a way for the private sector and Arab and international companies to invest in projects.
The NREA plans to take renewable electricity production to 10,000MW by 2022 by implementing projects in cooperation with the private sector.
