Siemens to provide Egypt's Ezz Steel with industrial cloud tech for data analytics
DTA solution supports industrial companies to increase asset reliability, availability, while reducing cost

In a new step towards digitalising the Egyptian industry, Siemens announced on Sunday it signed a contract with Al Ezz Dekheila Steel Company (EZDK) to deploy the company's leading digital industrial solutions across EZDK's diverse steel production assets.
Under the agreement, Siemens will provide EZDK with Siemens' Drive Train Analytics (DTA) system, along with medium voltage motors, marking the first deployment of DTA in the Middle East.
"Egypt is looking into the deployment of new technology and digitalising the industrial landscape in the country. We are committed to the development of the Egyptian metal sector, as a major pillar of the Egyptian economy. Our contract with Siemens is an important step and we look forward to working together to develop and utilise the latest digital solutions for our industry," said Sayed Ibrahim, Direct Reduction Division director of EZDK, adding that the amount of data available for metal production has increased exponentially in recent years.
Steel manufacturers strive nowadays to reduce operating risk and improve reliability at the lowest sustainable cost, by predicting and preventing asset failures.
"The most important driver of competitiveness among metal manufacturers has traditionally been pricing, but now top value-creators are standing out by how effectively they capture and leverage data," said Emad Ghaly, CEO of Siemens in Egypt.
Siemens DTA is a comprehensive solution that helps solve these challenges by providing condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, root cause analysis, and inspection. The data-driven solutions also facilitate the development of asset strategies which maximise reliability and availability, minimise risk and cost, and dramatically reduce unplanned downtime by predicting equipment issues before they occur.
As a cloud-based solution, DTA uses continuously improving algorithms designed to help equipment operators have full transparency of their assets in order to increase reliability and availability, minimise costs and reduce operational risk, as well as decrease spending on unnecessary and unplanned maintenance. In addition, DTA is designed to be connected to Siemens' cloud-based, open operating system for the Internet of Things (IoT), MindSphere. MindSphere connects physical products, plants, systems, and machines to the digital world, harnessing the wealth of data generated by the IoT with advanced analytics.
