Three global alliances competing for construction of dry port in Sixth of October City
Investments expected to reach more than $100m, project will take up to 30 years

The Ministry of Finance announced that three global alliances from international companies from Germany, Singapore, India, the UAE, and Egypt are competing in order to sign a contract for establishing a dry port to serve the Industrial Zone in the Sixth of October City, with investments expected to reach more than $100m.
The ministry explained in a press statement on Sunday that it has received requests from three global alliances in order to buy the booklet which includes the conditions for applying to construct a dry port project.
According to the statement, the first alliance is led by the Indian Concord for Construction, and include the Egyptian Hassan Allam Group, and the Singaporean PSA Corporation.
Meanwhile, the second alliance is led by the DP WORLD, in partnership with the Holding Company of Maritime & Land Transport.
Furthermore, the third alliance is led by El Sewedy Electric Group, and includes DB Schenker Egypt, and 3A International.
Moreover, the statement noted that the three alliances are eligible to participate in the project, which will be held on an area of 100 acres in the Sixth of October City as a port for customs clearance for the containers which are traded in the Alexandria and El-Dekheila ports.
"The port will contribute toward alleviating the congestion of containers in the ports of Alexandria and El-Dekheila, in addition to serving the Industrial Zone in the city. The new port will also create many new jobs," according to the ministry.
The statement pointed out that the implementation and the operation of this project will take up to 30 years, as stated in the contract.
On the other hand, the technical and financial bids are expected to be submitted in May, then the ministry will evaluate and announce the winning bidder.
In November 2018, the Egyptian Cabinet approved the prime minister's draft decision to establish a dry port in the Sixth of October City on 100 acres to be called the dry port, and also approved to construct a logistics centre in October.
