Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry headed on Saturday to Barcelona, to take part in the third Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), on 8 October.
The Regional Forum is scheduled to gather foreign ministers of the 43 UfM member countries, to address the union's performance and future joint efforts, amid recent challenges.
Observers from the League of Arab States, the European Investment Bank, the European Economic Community, the Anna Lindh Foundation, the Parliamentary Assembly of the UfM, the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly, and the Social Committee will also be present.
According to the Ministry's statement, Shoukry will deliver a speech before the UfM on Egypt's vision to enhance cooperation between the Mediterranean states.
The UfM will be hosted by Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell, the Secretary General of the UfM Nasser Kamel, and it will be headed by Federica Mogherini, high representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of European Commission, and the Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
The UfM is an intergovernmental Euro-Mediterranean organisation which brings together all 28 countries of the EU, and 15 countries of the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean.
Shoukry's visit to Spain came after he participated in the ministerial meeting of the Tokyo International Conference of African Development last week.
In Japan, He held bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart and Japan's Prime Minister on regional issues of common interest, as well as bilateral cooperation which included power station maintenance, electricity, infrastructure, health, and education projects, such as the Egypt-Japan Education Partnership, and the Egypt Japan University of Science and Technology.
