MCIT addresses international electronic design companies to localise industry in Egypt
Ministerial committee formed from three ministries: MCIT, Military Production, Education

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Amr Talaat said, that the ministry is addressing international companies in the field of electronic designs to cooperate with local companies in the field of electronic manufacturing and design. The minister of communications believes that the field of electronic design is one of the fields, in which Egypt has an opportunity to maximise its potential.
Talaat told Daily News Egypt that there is cooperation between the Ministries of Communications, Military Production, and Education to localise the electronics industry and the construction of advanced educational content and specialised software for the management of the educational process.
The MCIT works through a strategy of developing the information technology industry to attract foreign investments, new international technologies, and encouraging national companies to manufacture locally. The ministry and its affiliates will train the required cadres and attract them to the technological parks in order to help them compete.
Talaat met with the General Division of Digital Economy and Technology from the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC), headed by Khalil Hassan Khalil. During the meeting they discussed building a strong national industry in the information and communication technologies field in cooperation with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), as well as the division's plans to increase demand concerning programming services.
A ministerial committee was formed from three ministries: the MCIT, Military Production, and Education to manage the manufacturing of the tablet. This resulted into three subcommittees; one for manufacturing, another for programming and content; and a third for design, research, and development. Each minister was assigned a task, where the research and development subcommittee was assigned to the MCIT. It will hold its first meeting next week, in partnership with the private sector. "We will invite specialised companies to partake in the project. The ministerial committee will meet every six weeks to follow-up on the work of the three committees," said Talaat.
The MCIT is also focusing on a number of projects during the current fiscal year, including attracting investments in several fields, such as data centres, cloud computing, value added services, Internet of Things, training, and virtual reality.
