Following the cultural policy adapted by the Minister of Culture Inas Abdel-Dayem of establishing several book fairs in various governments to raise peoples' cultural awareness concerning reading. Ahmed Bahy El-Din, deputy head of the General Egyptian Book Organisation inaugurated the Suez book fair on Tuesday, as the fourth book fair taking place after the Cairo International Book Fair, Alexandria, and Ras El-Bar's.
The fair is organised by the General Egyptian Book Organisation and runs until August 18 in the Suez Cultural Palace.
The opening was attended by several figures from the governorate. The fair includes books published by the General Egyptian Book Organisation, for both adults and children with sections for translated and other languages books.
Abdel Dayem's adopted policy targets popular summer destinations, which much of the public attend, with the aim to fight terrorism and extremism.
The book fair hosts several cultural performances and entertainment shows for children, as well as cultural seminars.
Earlier this year, Sami Younes, head of the Cairo International Convention Centre, announced on Monday that the Cairo International Book Fair will be held twice a year starting in 2018, adding that the second edition will be held in the autumn of every year. This year's edition witnessed the participation of 867 publishers, of which 367 were from the Middle East and North Africa region and nine were non-Arab publishers. One hundred and fourteen publishing houses participated in the fair for the very first time this year.
