Prosecutor general orders investigation into assault of Egyptian student in UK
18-year-old Abdel Salam, living in Nottingham with her family, was assaulted by group of 10 women

Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek ordered on Saturday opening an investigation into an attack which involved the severe beating and verbal assault of Egyptian engineering student Mariam Abdel Salam, who is based in UK, according to an official statement.
The 18-year-old Abdel Salam, who is living in Nottingham with her family, was assaulted by a group of 10 women in a crowded area near the intu Victoria Centre shopping mall in London, resulting in her falling into a coma due to suffering brain strokes that caused her brain to stop functioning, media outlets reported.
In an online video, the student's mother said that her daughter was assaulted by "10 girls" and that her daughter was subjected to another assault four months ago by two of those girls.
City police said that Abdel Salam has recovered from the coma but is still in intensive care at Queen's Medical Centre, according to the Nottingham Post.
Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official statement that it is closely following up on an attack that took place on 20 February. The Egyptian consulate and embassy in London are in contact with the victim's family, the municipal authority, the UK Foreign Ministry, and the hospital where Abdel Salam is being treated, the Foreign Ministry's statement added.The British Embassy in Cairo described what happened to Mostafa as "a despicable and unacceptable act," reported MENA agencyon Sunday.
Embassy spokesperson said that "they share concerns with Mostafa's family", adding that the British police has already arrested one of the alleged attackers. She also stressed that all forms of hate crimes are totally rejected, adding that the UK has one of the strongest laws to face them.
