On Monday 18 December, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) demanded that Trump's administration rescind it's decision to recognise Jeuraslim as Israel's capital. The UNSC issued a resolution regarding that matter, which was vetoed by US Ambassdor Nikki Haley, as expected. The United Nations issued more than 400 resolutions regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict, including more than 200 resolutions taken up by the UNSC. The United States vetoed 43 of these resolutions, even when its allies voted in favour of them, and despite the fact that 179 nations out of 193 have called for the recognition of Palestine's statehood. The Arab-Israeli conflict started in 1917 when the British issued the Balfour Declaration, in which they supported the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. In 1948, the first Arab-Israeli war began after the UN Partition Plan—which proposed the establishment of Arab and Jewish states in Palestine—which was rejected by the Arabs. The United States was actively seeking a temporary UN approved trusteeship rather than immediate partition at that time, which is not the case nowadays.
