EETC poses 600 MW solar plant tenders west of Nile
Project will operate under BOO system
Published in Daily News Egypt on 12 - 12 - 2017

The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) has posed a tender to establish solar energy plants west of the Nile, with a total capacity of 600 MW.
The EETC called on Arab and international companies to present the required documents for establishing the power projects.
The New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) will grant the selected company the right to use the allocated land for 25 years and the company will be responsible for designing, financing, and operating the plants with under a build, own, operate (BOO) scheme.
The total allocated land from the NREA is up to 7,600 sqkm, of which about 5,700 sqkm is allocated for wind farms, with the aim of producing 35,000 MW. It also allocated 1,950 sqkm for solar power plants with the aim of producing 54,000 MW.
According to sources at the EETC, the terms and conditions of the tender indicate that the bidding company should have established at least three solar power projects with a minimum capacity of 100 MW.
The bidding company should also provide documents indicating the cost of implementing the stations.
The sources added that the bidding companies must pay $10,000 to the EEETC as insurance. It set the middle of January as the deadline for the payment.
The EETC has determined the maximum price for purchasing energy from the proposed solar power projects at 3.8 piastres per kW.
The Ministry of Electricity aims to increase production from wind farms and solar power plants for the state to produce 20% of its power from renewable sources by 2022.
