WASHINGTON: The Egyptian embassy in Washington says President Hosni Mubarak s remarks about his plans to seek another term were mistranslated and that he has made no decision. Karim Haggag, the embassy spokesman, said Mubarak was referring to the 2005 Egyptian elections in which he ran on a platform of political reform. In no way did he announce his intentions in the forthcoming presidential elections in 2011. In an interview (on PBS) with Charlie Rose, which aired last night, the president specifically said he had not made a decision whether to run in the next elections, Haggag said. In a question-and-answer session with President Barack Obama, Mubarak said the two leaders had spoken about the need for political reform in Egypt. I have entered into the elections based on a platform that included reforms and therefore we have started to implement some of it and we still have two years to implement it, Mubarak said through a translator.
