State Council concluded on Monday reviewing the government draft of Criminal Procedure Law and to deliver it within few days for cabinet, local media reported. The Parliament hold in early August extraordinary sessions to discuss comprehensive amendment for Criminal Procedure Law, that will be the first since the fifties. Minister of Justice Mohamed Hossam Abdel Rahim and General Prosecutor Nabil Sadek have attended the sessions. The government decided to amend the law to step up new regulations could assist in proceeding the litigation process in criminal cases, as there has been large number of cases that remains pending in courts.
The law will be forwarded to the parliament for casting votes for final approval. The parliament has granted members of country's top judicial authorities' members, law professors, members of the parliament's committee of constitutional and legalism affairs a time limit of 30 days to review the government draft and provide their comments. The state council was among the entities that was required to provide their comments over the law. The new draft includes 260 articles, and was originally consisted of 560 articles, in which some were omitted, replaced and edited.
The suggested amendments for the law included improving provisions of travel bans and per-trial detention, regulating investigations process, conditions of referring criminal cases to court, activation of appeals in criminal courts.
