Finance ministry allocates EGP 9.4bn for sanitation in health budget for FY 2017/2018
The parliament insisted on the health allocations defined by the constitution, says MP Magdy Morshed
Published in Daily News Egypt on 28 - 05 - 2017

Member of parliament (MP) and member of the Health Committee in the parliament Magdy Morshed said that the Ministry of Finance has included the financial allocations for sanitation in the general budget of next fiscal year under the allocations of the health sector.
The health sector's allocations in the coming state budget are estimated at EGP 53.7bn, while the ministry of health requested to increase its allocations to EGP 61bn.
Morshed added that the financial allocation for sanitation in the draft budget amounted to EGP 9.4bn.
The financial statement issued by the Ministry of Finance showed that the health sector will be allocated an amount of EGP 105bn from the draft budget for the next fiscal year.
Morshed said that the Health Committee rejected including the allocations for sewage within the health sector, pointing out that they should remain under the housing sector and new urban communities.
He stressed that the parliament insists on the health allocations defined by the constitution, amounting to 3% of GDP.
The Health Committee has submitted a report to the Ministry of Finance demanding to increase the health allocations to reach 3% of GDP and exclude the public debt interest from its allocations.
Daily News Egypt has revealed that the Ministry of Finance will add the public debt up to EGP 20bn to the health allocations for the next fiscal year.
Morshed ruled out issuing the comprehensive Health Insurance Law during the next financial year, in light of the lack of required funds.
"The Health Committee insists on its recommendations on this subject, in accordance with the constitution, and we are waiting for the government's response," Mohamed al-Amari, head of the Health Committee, said.
Mervat Alexan, member of the Plan and Budget Committee in parliament, said that many ministries requested an increase in their financial allocations in the next fiscal year, including the health sector.
