Shaker meets Siemens representatives to follow up on developments of its 2025 master plan
Negotiations with State Grid Corporation of China to establish 120km electricity line in May

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker held a meeting with the officials of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and Siemens Management Consulting to follow up on the developments of the master plan of 2025.
Shaker said that he reviewed the latest procedures of the master plan that was prepared by Siemens consultants. The master plan includes solutions to problems in the electricity sector, taking into account the sector's generation capacities of traditional, coal, nuclear, and renewable energies, as well as the required stations and lines to absorb the produced capacities.
He added that the meeting tackled the new electricity projects of the short-term plan until 2018, after adding 14,400MW from Beni Suef, Borollos, and the New Administrative Capital power plants, which are established in cooperation with the German company Siemens and its local partners Orascom and Elsewedy Electric.
It is to be noted that these efforts come to activate the memorandum of understanding that was signed with Siemens during the Egyptian Economic Development Conference held in Sharm El-Sheikh in March 2015. The memorandum aimed to prepare a master plan to strengthen and develop the electricity grid until 2025.
Meanwhile, officials from the Ministry of Electricity met with the State Grid Corporation of China to discuss the establishment of a 120km line linking the Borollos station and the Itay Al-Barud transmission plant in May.
Sources in the Ministry of Electricity said that the Chinese company is aiming to complete the linking line by the end of June, because the residents of the area are objecting to the installment of the line and electricity towers in agricultural areas.
The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) has signed a $757m loan contract with the Export-Import Bank of China to finance the establishment of 1,210km-long electricity lines with a capacity of 500KW.
The sources explained that the Chinese company is handling the implementation of the project—according to Egyptian Banks Company and finance regulations—which includes establishing the project, its design, and its implementation, as well as the collection of funds from banks. The Ministry of Electricity will handle the repayment of the loan to financing agencies.
The Egyptian Electricity Holding Company signed contracts with Siemens last year to implement three combined-cycle power plants with a total capacity of 14,400MW. The three power plants are in Borollos, Beni Suef, and the New Administrative Capital.
