The number of subscribers of mobile services in the Egyptian market rose slightly in September to reach 96.25m subscribers compared to 96.24m subscribers in August. According to a report issued by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, 8,570 new customers were added to the mobile market in September. The report also stated that Etisalat Egypt attracted the most customers, as they increased by 208,000 new customers, bringing the total number of subscribers to 23.01m in September, compared to 22.8m users in August. Orange lost 106,100 customers, decreasing its number of costumers from 33.6m in August to 33.49m in September. Vodafone lost 93,500 customers, making its number of costumers go from 39.8m in August to 39.7m in September. On the other hand, Telecom Egypt (TE) lost 426,500 landline subscribers in September, as the number of subscribers fell from 6.3m in August to 5.9m in September. According to the report, the number of ADSL users increased by 65,200 customers in September, reaching 4.34m in August, compared to 4.41m in September. The cost of communication services fell during the second quarter (Q2) of 2016, as the cost of mobile phone services fell from $2.77 in Q2 of 2015 to $2.3 in Q2 of 2016. The cost of ADSL fell from $9.83 in Q2 of 2015 to $5.6 in the same period in 2016. Landline services dropped from $2.12 in Q2 of 2015 to $1.8 in Q2 of 2016. The cost of mobile services are calculated based on the prepaid amount of every 30 phone calls and 100 text messages every month across mobile phone and landline services companies. The cost of the ADSL service is calculated according to the lowest price of the internet services company with the most subscribers.
