Zamalek turned Wigan down twice: Zaki
Published in Daily News Egypt on 01 - 07 - 2009

CAIRO: Egypt striker Amr Zaki revealed that Wigan Athletic had twice offered to turn his season-long loan move into a permanent deal, but Zamalek had turned them down.
Wigan made two offers to acquire my services on a permanent basis when I was at my best, midway through last season. Zamalek rejected them both though, he told Egyptian TV.
In the first offer, they were ready to pay up to ?6 million, however, Zamalek preferred to wait for more bids and choose the best of them.
Afterwards, they made another offer that would have made both clubs own my registration fifty-fifty, so as they would both benefit if a third club bought me, but again the bid was rejected.
Over a month ago, Zaki s personal manager Mohamed Saied revealed that his client was eyed by four Premier League clubs, but no British outfit have made official overtures to the 26-year-old so far.
Later on, reports suggested that Lyon is interested in his services, but the French Ligue 1 side are yet to table a solid offer.
Zaki assured that he wouldn t be upset if he stayed at Zamalek next season, although his "dream is to ply his trade in England.
Playing for Zamalek is not a problem. For me, this club is a real home, he elaborated. But my dream is to stay at the Premiership.
In my opinion, the Premier League is the strongest in the world, while the Primera Liga comes second.
Zaki had an immaculate start to his adventure at the JJB Stadium last term, having notched 10 goals in the Premier League with Wigan.
The well-built marksman topped the elite competition s scoring charts for a while, but his level has deteriorated in the winter.
He was also accused of irresponsibility and lack of commitment by Steve Bruce, who was in charge of the Latics last season.
