On 19 September, Al-Ahram International Squash Open celebrated its last qualifier round, which serves as a qualifier to the quarterfinals. Egypt's Tarek Momen defeated his compatriot, Mohamed Reda in all three matches with 11-4, 11-5, 11-3, resulting in final score of 3-0. Egyptian Karim Abdel Gawad won against Scottish Greg Lobban 3-1 with match points of 10-12, 11-8, 14-12, and 11-8. Spanish Borja Golan lost to Egyptian Zahed Salem 3-2, with scores in the five matches: 10-12, 11-8, 5-11, 12-10, 11-6. Egyptian Fares El-Desuky lost to his compatriot Ali Farag, 0-3 as the latter won all matches (11-6, 11-9, and 11-6). German Simon Rosner won against Egyptian Youssef Soliman 3-0, with match points of 11-1, 9-11, 11-4, and 12-10. It has proven to be a bright season for Egypt's Ramy Ashour, as after he won the 2016 Hong Kong Squash Open, he won against his compatriot Omar Abdel Meguid at Al-Ahram. The game ended 3-1 in Ashour's favour, according to the following results: 11-5, 5-11, 11-7, 11-6. As for the women competitions, Malaysian Nicol David won against England's Fiona Moverley, by 11-8/11-7/11-9, and the final score of 3-0. However, Malaysian Low Wee Wern lost 2-3 to Egyptian Omenya Abdel Kawy across five matches (8-11, 3-11, 16-14, 12-10, and 6-11). Welsh Tesni Evans was defeated by US player Amanda Sobhy, with match points of 9-11, 11-5, 11-4, 13-15, and 11-7, and the final score of 3-2. England's Victoria Lust lost 3-1 to her compatriot Alison Waters (11-9, 7-11, 11-4, and 11-4). After winning the 2016 WSF World Junior Squash Championship in Poland and the 2016 Hong Kong Squash Open, Egyptian Nouran Gohar exited the tournament when she lost 3-2to her compatriot Nour El-Tayb: 2-11, 12-10, 5-11, 6-11, and 11-7. England's Sarah-Jane Perry, who is ranked 14th internationally, surprised the audience after she defeated French Camille Serme, who is ranked sixth internationally. The match ended 3-1 in Perry's favour (11-4, 5-11, 11-6, and 11-8). All the previous matches were held at the City View Compound. Afterwards, the remaining four matches moved, on the same day, to be celebrated at the Giza Pyramids. The first match, which took place at the Pyramids, was between Egypt's Nour El-Sherbiny and Australian Rachael Grinham. The result was 3-0 in El-Sherbiny's favour (11-7, 11-4, and 11-4). In the second match, Egyptian Raneem El-Wilily defeated Indian Joshna Chinappa by 3-0 (11-8, 11-2, and 11-7). The third match was between Egyptian Mohamed El-Shorbagy and Australian Cameron Pilley. The victory was for El-Shorbagy with 3-1 (9-11, 11-7, 11-9, and 11-8). At the 2016 Hong Kong Squash Open almost a month ago, El-Shorbagy lost to Pilley. Egypt's Omar Mosad met his compatriot Karim Fathin in the fourth match. The final result was 3-0 to Mosad (11-4, 11-6, and 11-6). The quarterfinals are taking place at the Giza Pyramids on 20 and 21 September.
