Daily News Egypt created a list of the 10 top-selling cars in the Egyptian market in the first half of 2016. Those 10 passenger car models sold 33,200 cars from January to June, representing 47% of the total sales of 70,800 units in the six months.
The locally manufactured Hyundai Verna topped the list, achieving sales of 6,689 units worth EGP 675.5m, while the Nissan New Sunny occupied the second place by selling 6,636 units worth EGP 822m.
The imported Hyundai Tucson came in the third position, registering sales of 3,944 units worth EGP 1.2bn, while the Mitsubishi Lancer Ex ranked fourth with sales of 3,761 cars worth EGP 658m. The locally manufactured Nissan Sentra registered sales of 2,393 units worth EGP 386.5m
The locally manufactured Hyundai Elantra HD ranked sixth by selling 2,175 units worth EGP 345.8m, followed by Opel Astra in seventh place with 1,996 sold units in the first half of 2016.
The eighth position was obtained by the imported Kia Sportage, with sales of 1,941 units worth EGP 534m.
The imported Chevrolet Cruze occupied ninth place, selling 1,842 units worth EGP 348m. The tenth and final position was acquired by Geely Emgrand 7, registering sales of 1,790 units worth EGP 185.5m.
The size of the locally manufactured cars in the list reached 19,700 cars, making up roughly 60% of the 10 passenger car models.
The automotive market's sales declined again in June after a recovery period from the sales drop crisis that dominated the market since the beginning of 2016.
The decline's pace slowed down to register a drop of 25.2% in the first five months of 2016. The decline reached 26.4% in the first half of 2016, amid the increase of foreign currency prices.
The market witnessed a circulation of 101,600 units from the beginning of January until June, compared to 138,000 units year-over-year.
