Suez Canal traffic data revealed that 335 ships transited the canal from 16 to 22 July, carrying a total load of 19.63m tonnes.
An average of 47.86 ships transited the canal per day during that period, with an average load of 2.8m tonnes per day. The average load per ship was about 58,600 tonnes during that period.
Compared to July 2015, before the inauguration of the New Suez Canal, the average daily number of transiting vessels totalled 47 vessels, with an average load of 2.758m tonnes per day.
Three major container ships, the Danish Magleby Maersk and Munkebo Maersk and Maltese Al Dahna, transited the canal carrying 200,360 tonnes each.
The number of vessels that passed through the new channel coming from the west through the northern entrance was 155 vessels, with a daily average of 22.14 vessels, and a total load of 6.4m tonnes, recording a daily average of 1.28m tonnes.
Meanwhile, 180 ships transited the canal coming from the south, with a daily average of 25.7 vessels, and a total load of 10.62m tonnes, recording a daily average of 1.52m tonnes.
