Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met with his African counterparts from Sudan, Uganda, and Ghana during his current visit to Rwanda for the African Union (AU) meetings. Shoukry held bilateral talks with the ministers on the sidelines of the AU assembly, according to state-news agency MENA. During the meetings, he discussed the current security plight in South Sudan with his Sudanese counterpart, and reviewed the international efforts exerted regionally and internationally to combat it. "Both sides agreed that the conflict will have severe humanitarian consequences," ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abo-Zeid said. In his meeting with the Ugandan foreign minister, Shoukry tackled the Nile River issue and the bilateral relations between both countries, and with the Nile basin countries. "Under all circumstances, Egypt's goal will always be to maintain the interests of other countries in the Nile basin, and not to mess with their interests," Shoukry said during the meeting. Moreover, in his meeting with his counterpart from Ghana, Shoukry reviewed efforts against terrorism in the region, especially in Sub-saharan Africa. On the other hand, Ghana's minister recognised Egypt's collaborative efforts when it sent a medical convoy to Ghana amid a doctors' strike. The Executive Council of the African Union is currently meeting in the Rwandan capital Kigali, for talks on peace and security as a top priority in efforts aimed at facilitating the enhancement of socio-economic well-being of Africans.
