Communications Ministry looks into offers from coalitions qualified for 2 PPP tenders
Eight coalitions are qualified, but only two will be selected, says assistant to minister

Eight local and Arab coalitions qualified for the two tenders of the mechanisation of the Commercial Registry and the Real Estate Publicity Department (REPD).
Two coalitions will be selected out of the eight in order to begin implementation of the project, according to Khaled El-Attar, assistant to the minister of communications and head of IT Infrastructure at the ministry.
Among the qualified coalitions are Dallah Al-Baraka Holding Co., Alkan, and E-finance, in addition to an Emirati coalition.
By the end of 2014, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology had launched two tenders to develop and administer both the Commercial Registry and REPD through the public-private partnership (PPP) system, at a cost of EGP 2bn. Their implementation is expected to be completed within two years.
El-Attar told Daily News Egypt that discussions are ongoing between the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Electricity regarding the strategy to install smart electricity metres.
The Chinese company Huawei is working on the implementation of the pilot phase for the installation of the metres. Nearly 1m metres are expected to be installed.
The two projects to develop the Commercial Registry and REPD were presented during the Egypt Economic Development Conference in March 2015. The projects include developing the infrastructure and the work system in Commercial Registry offices without burdening the government with additional costs.
The project for the mechanisation of the Commercial Registry aims to develop the work environment, and offer a high-quality service to citizens and investors, as well as provide new services.
It also aims to restructure prices of offered services, increase the number of jobs, regulate and monitor trade operations, and provide accurate query services about commercial establishments for the beneficiaries.
