Published in Daily News Egypt on 23 - 11 - 2015

The Geely Emgrand topped the list of the Chinese cars sales in Egypt, where it recorded EGP 411.6m in sales, with 4,626 cars sold in the first nine months of 2015.
The Speranza Tiggo and Envy continued in second and third place respectively, without conducting any sales operations in September, causing the Tiggo to stop at EGP 263m with 1,969 cars sold and the Envy at EGP 134m with 1,675 cars sold.
The Automotive Marketing Information Council (AMIC) revealed that Chinese cars faced significant declines, losing more than one third of their sales that were achieved in the first nine months of 2014. The Chinese car agents sold about 10,800 cars in the period between January and September 2015 compared to the 17,100 cars in the same period in 2014, marking a decline rate of 37%.
According to AMIC, the poor sales Geely made led to a significant shake in that category of the market. The sales of Geely, with all of its models, declined from 11,800 cars in the first nine months in 2014 to about 5,800 units in the same period in 2015, more than 50% decline.
GB Ghabbour Auto is the agent of Geely in the Egyptian market. The Chinese company has a number of models, including the XPandino, Pandino, and Emgrand. The latest of these acquires the highest demand in the market since it was announced at the end of 2012. However, it faced severe competition and a counter-propaganda war on social networks.
The Chinese car market in Egypt achieved sales estimated at EGP 1.04bn through the first nine months of 2015, 4.6% of the total value of sales in the private car market in Egypt.
Chinese cars were able to record more than 10,800 sold cars out of the total market sales of 146,000 cars, acquiring 7.2% of cars sold.
