The Administrative Prosecution Authority (APA) referred, Sunday, the principle of a preparatory school for boys and two of its teachers in Matariya, Daqahleya to a disciplinary trial. The defendants were accused of using students to protest against the police and the military during a school day, and forcing them to leave their classes, state-owned newspaper Al-Ahram reported. They were referred to the prosecution who charged them with the abovementioned allegations, according to official APA spokesperson Mohamed Samir. Investigations by the APA also charged them with using power, violence, blocking roads and causing injuries to citizens. Similar cases have taken place during this year. It has been reported on 9 June that a Coptic teacher and four students were arrested in April for making a video mocking the Islamic religion in Al-Nasriyah in Upper Egypt. The defendants were all released on a bail of EGP 10,000 each. Three of the students had been in detention for 41 days, and the fourth was in detention for 60 days. A fifth boy involved in the video fled the village. Whilst the teacher may face jail, the students, who are all under 18 years of age, will not go to prison, but could still receive suspended prison sentences.
